About us
Mortar & Mitre began in 2022 when owner, Nathan Kleine Deters, decided to narrow his carpentry focus specifically to tile. Nathan began his craftsman journey in Colorado, where he learned the art of Lutherie, or guitar making. From there he repaired guitars for a number of years before moving to Vancouver Island in 2016 where he was employed by a general contractor to do renovation work of all kinds. Framing, finish carpentry, concrete, flooring, and tile setting. It was tile setting that caught his interest as it was such a detail oriented process, not unlike building a guitar. He found his niche and an avenue to express his creativity and sharpen his craft.
Nathan enjoys working with customers to create a finished product that both he and the customer can be proud of.
